We're a small but fast-growing company based in South Wales, working on exciting high voltage infrastructure projects across the UK. As part of our continued growth, we're looking for a High Voltage Commissioning Engineer to join our close-knit, supportive team.
About the role
You will play a critical role in the testing and commissioning of electrical systems from 11kV up to 132kV, working across a range of grid connections, substations, renewable energy projects and industrial installations.
Responsibilities include:
- Preparation and execution of commissioning plans and procedures
- Functional testing of HV equipment including transformers, switchgear, protection relays and SCADA systems
- Fault finding and diagnostics
- Site documentation and reporting
- Liaising with clients, DNOs, ICPs and project managers
Essential qualifications and certifications
- HNC/HND or degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
- Senior Authorised Person (SAP), or demonstrable experience working under an SAP on HV networks
- G99/G59 testing and commissioning knowledge
- National Grid Person/BESC certification, or a willingness to obtain it
- ECS/CSCS card
- 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) — desirable
- First Aid at Work and Manual Handling, current or valid
Required experience and expertise
- Minimum 3 years' hands-on experience in high voltage commissioning (11kV–132kV)
- Experience working on DNO, ICP, IDNO or private HV networks
- Familiarity with protection relay configuration and secondary injection testing (e.g. Omicron, Megger)
- Sound knowledge of commissioning procedures, electrical safety regulations and risk assessment
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics
- Strong documentation, reporting and communication skills
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team, with a solution-driven approach
